Forbidden Valentines
Listen to this story...
Can one person really make a difference? What if the person in question is just an eight-year-old girl?
Morgan Nyman was only in the second grade when she was denied her right to share Christ’s love on Valentines Day. Like all the other students, she had looked forward to the celebration and the chance to hand out her homemade Valentines to her classmates. But when it came to Morgan’s Valentines, the school refused to let her pass them out...all because they contained a message about God’s love.
Morgan could have given up. She could have let the school take away her Valentines and her religious freedoms. But this little girl showed us that one person can make a big difference.
Morgan’s parents called ADF, and an ADF funded attorney filed the case in the U.S. District Court of Wisconsin. In the end, the school board agreed to let Morgan distribute her Valentines to her classmates and the school even printed an apology in the local newspaper.
But Morgan Nyman’s story doesn’t end with her 2001 victory. Her precedent setting case has helped make many other wins possible. Because of the courage of one young child to stand up for her religious liberties, school children can share Christ’s love in their schools on Valentine’s Day.
Can one person really make a difference? Morgan did.
